Job Description:

Associate Structural Engineer | £65,000 - £75,000
Birmingham City Centre (Hybrid)

A leading multidisciplinary engineering consultancy is looking for an Associate Structural Engineer to join its Birmingham Building Structures team.

Based beside Snow Hill Station and within walking distance of New Street, the team delivers major projects across the Midlands and wider UK. Its portfolio includes complex refurbishments and repurposing schemes, commercial and residential developments, education facilities, retail, advanced manufacturing and industrial buildings.

This is a senior appointment combining project leadership, technical responsibility and the management of a small engineering team. You’ll also have the opportunity to develop client relationships and contribute to the continued growth of the Birmingham office.

The role

You’ll be responsible for:

• Leading structural projects from concept through to completion
• Managing and mentoring a team of three to four engineers and technicians
• Taking responsibility for project programmes, budgets and technical quality
• Reviewing calculations, drawings, specifications and design information
• Coordinating with clients, architects and multidisciplinary design teams
• Providing technical guidance across several live projects
• Supporting fee proposals, client engagement and business development
• Ensuring designs comply with relevant UK standards and regulations

Your experience

You should have:

• A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
• Strong experience within a structural engineering consultancy
• A proven record of leading building structures projects
• Experience managing or mentoring engineers and technicians
• Broad technical knowledge across different structural materials and building types
• Familiarity with software such as Robot, MasterSeries, ETABS, Tedds, CSC Fastrak and Revit
• Eligibility to obtain UK security clearance due to the nature of some projects

Chartered status through ICE, IStructE or an equivalent professional body would be ideal, although candidates working towards Chartership will also be considered.

You’ll need to be comfortable dealing directly with clients, managing competing project priorities and taking ownership of both technical and commercial delivery.

Appointment will be subject to successfully obtaining the required security clearance.
