Design / Engineering Technician – Plastics

Location: Great Barr, Birmingham, B42 1EA
Hours: Monday–Thursday 8:00am–4:30pm | Friday 8:00am–1:00pm
Salary: Dependent on experience

The Role

We are looking for a Design / Engineering Technician to join a growing business based in Great Barr, Birmingham.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a plastics or manufacturing background who has a working knowledge of SolidWorks and is looking for a practical, hands-on engineering role.

The ideal candidate will enjoy working across both design and practical engineering, using their technical knowledge to support the wider team, troubleshoot problems and help develop effective solutions.

This position would suit someone who may be recently graduated or early in their career, as well as someone with several years' experience who is looking for a stable, long-term position with the opportunity to develop and progress within the company.

Key Responsibilities

• Using SolidWorks to create and amend technical drawings and designs.
• Providing engineering and technical support to the wider team.
• Working hands-on with tools, equipment and components.
• Assisting with the development and improvement of products and processes.
• Identifying and resolving technical and manufacturing issues.
• Supporting problem-solving activities and finding practical solutions.
• Working closely with colleagues across engineering and production.
• Assisting with prototypes, modifications and product development.
• Reading and understanding technical drawings and specifications.
• Maintaining a practical, organised and safe approach to engineering work.

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

• Hands-on and practical, with a willingness to get involved rather than being purely office/design based.
• Confident using or learning SolidWorks.
• Ideally from a plastics, manufacturing, engineering or product development background.
• A natural problem solver with good attention to detail.
• Comfortable using hand tools and working with machinery/components.
• Able to understand technical drawings and translate designs into practical solutions.
• Keen to learn and develop their engineering skills.
• Reliable and looking for long-term, stable employment.
• A good communicator who can work effectively as part of a team.

Experience
