Finance Control and Reconciliation Analyst

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working with detail, takes pride in accuracy and wants to play an important part in maintaining strong financial controls. You'll support the smooth day-to-day running of our Finance function, completing reconciliations, processing financial transactions, investigating differences and helping us continue to improve how we work.

You'll work closely with colleagues across Finance, Operations and other areas of the Society to make sure financial information is accurate, timely and complete, while contributing to a strong, well-controlled finance environment.

The role

The Finance Controls & Reconciliations Specialist is responsible for supporting the effective day-to-day operation of the Finance function through the processing of financial transactions, maintenance of financial records, completion of reconciliations and operation of key financial controls.

The role combines operational finance responsibilities, including payments processing and purchase ledger management, with responsibility for maintaining accurate reconciliations, investigating discrepancies and supporting a strong financial control environment. The postholder will work closely with Finance, Operations and other business areas to ensure financial information is accurate, timely and complete whilst contributing to continuous improvement initiatives across the Society.

What you'll be doing

• Complete daily, weekly and monthly reconciliations across finance and operational accounts, investigating and resolving any differences.
• Maintain clear supporting evidence for all reconciliations in line with internal control and audit requirements.
• Process and transmit authorised payments, including CHAPS, Faster Payments, BACS and other payment types as required.
• Process daily bank credits and debits and upload transactions to the Society's core banking system.
• Support the Finance Supervisor in maintaining a strong financial control framework.
• Review financial transactions and balances to identify errors, omissions or unusual items.
• Assist with month-end processes, including preparation of journals, analysis and supporting schedules where required.
• Support the preparation of information required for internal reporting, external audit and regulatory reporting activity.
• Work collaboratively with employees across Finance, Operations and other relevant teams to resolve reconciliation queries.
• Support the implementation of improved working practices, including better use of systems, spreadsheets and reporting tools.

What we're looking for

• Someone who is organised, accurate and comfortable working with financial information.
• Experience in finance controls and reconciliations, with the confidence to investigate and resolve discrepancies.
• Ideally, someone who has worked within a bank, building society or wider financial services environment.
• Experience in finance administration, payments, purchase ledger or financial control activities.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain clear, accurate records.
• A proactive approach, with the confidence to ask questions, highlight issues and support process improvements.
• Someone who enjoys working collaboratively with colleagues to resolve queries and get things right.
