Housing Officer

Birmingham | £29,565 – £31,317 | Full-time, 35 hours per week

Are you an experienced Housing Officer looking for a rewarding role where your work genuinely makes a difference?

We’re recruiting for a Housing Officer to join a supportive, values-led organisation providing housing and services to older and vulnerable residents across Birmingham.

This is a varied, people-focused role where you’ll combine professional housing management with resident support, helping people maintain their tenancies, live independently and access the right support when they need it.

The role as a Housing Officer

You’ll manage a diverse caseload across independent and supported living schemes, with responsibilities including:

• Managing tenancies, rent accounts, arrears and tenancy breaches

• Supporting residents to sustain their accommodation and maximise their income

• Handling ASB, complaints, safeguarding and property-related issues

• Working with local authorities, health services, contractors and other agencies

• Carrying out housing, health & safety and compliance checks

• Supporting allocations, viewings and new resident sign-ups

• Encouraging resident engagement, wellbeing and community activities

• Maintaining accurate housing records and ensuring issues are followed through

About you

We’re looking for someone with at least 12 months’ social housing experience and a good understanding of housing legislation, regulation and best practice.

You’ll ideally have, or be working towards, a CIH Level 3 or equivalent housing qualification, alongside knowledge of welfare benefits and confidence using IT and housing management systems.

Most importantly, you’ll be empathetic, resilient and confident when dealing with challenging situations. Experience working with older or vulnerable residents, supported housing or resident engagement would be advantageous.

A full UK driving licence and access to a suitably insured vehicle are essential due to regular travel between housing schemes.
