Learning Mentor

£110-£115 per day

Contract: Full-time, long-term (Full Academic Year)

Long Term Futures is seeking a compassionate and resilient Learning Mentor to join a specialist SEMH setting in Dudley. This is a highly rewarding opportunity to support young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them overcome barriers to learning while developing the confidence, resilience, and life skills needed to succeed both in and out of the classroom.

Working alongside teachers, pastoral staff, and the wider support team, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils academically, socially, and emotionally, ensuring every student has the opportunity to reach their full potential.

About the Role
Working closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and senior leaders, your responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

• Providing 1:1 and small group mentoring to pupils with SEMH needs

• Supporting students to engage positively with learning and achieve their academic targets
• Building strong, trusting relationships while maintaining clear boundaries and professionalism
• Helping pupils develop emotional regulation, resilience, confidence, and social skills
• Supporting students through challenging situations using positive behaviour management and de-escalation techniques
• Encouraging attendance, engagement, and participation in lessons and wider school life
• Monitoring pupil progress and wellbeing, providing regular feedback to teachers and pastoral staff
• Working collaboratively with families and external professionals to ensure pupils receive the best possible support

Ideal Candidate Profile

• Essential: Previous, relevant experience working with children or young people in UK schools
• Experience supporting pupils with SEMH, SEND, or behavioural needs is highly desirable
• Calm, patient, and resilient, with the ability to remain composed under pressure
• Excellent behaviour management and relationship-building skills
• Able to build trust while maintaining consistency, professionalism, and appropriate boundaries
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Passionate about supporting vulnerable young people to overcome barriers and achieve positive outcomes
