Salary: £100–£120 per day, dependent on experience

PK Education are looking to recruit a caring, resilient and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to work within a specialist school in Birmingham supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Teaching Assistant who enjoys building positive relationships with young people and wants to make a genuine difference to pupils who require additional support to engage successfully with education.

The school provides specialist education for pupils aged 7–16, all of whom have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). The setting takes a highly personalised and nurturing approach, with a strong emphasis on building trusting relationships, developing pupils’ confidence and supporting their social, emotional and academic development.

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and the wider support team to help pupils access learning and make positive progress.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEMH and additional needs.
• Building strong, positive and consistent relationships with pupils.
• Supporting pupils with emotional regulation, behaviour and engagement with learning.
• Helping pupils access personalised learning activities and the wider curriculum.
• Encouraging independence, confidence and positive social interaction.
• Supporting pupils during transitions and throughout the school day.
• Working alongside teachers and other professionals to follow individual support plans and EHCP targets.
• Helping to maintain a calm, safe and nurturing learning environment.
• Providing feedback on pupil progress, behaviour and wellbeing.

Previous experience working within SEN, SEMH, alternative provision, PRU or a specialist school environment would be highly beneficial. Experience supporting children or young people with challenging behaviour will also be considered.
