Job Description:

Senior Mechanical Design Engineer | £45,000 - £55,000
Birmingham or Solihull (Hybrid)

We’re working with an established, independent building services consultancy looking to appoint a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer across several UK offices.

You’ll work on a varied portfolio covering healthcare, education, commercial, residential, industrial, pharmaceutical and public-sector developments, with a strong emphasis on low-carbon and sustainable design.

This is a good opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Engineer who wants to lead projects, deal directly with clients and take greater responsibility for the development of junior engineers.

The Role

You’ll be involved throughout the full project lifecycle, from early-stage concept and feasibility work through to detailed design, construction and completion.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading the mechanical design delivery on selected projects
• Producing mechanical calculations, drawings and specifications
• Working directly with clients, architects and other design-team members
• Attending project meetings and delivering client presentations
• Coordinating mechanical services with other engineering disciplines
• Reviewing work and supporting junior engineers within the team
• Maintaining a high standard of technical delivery
• Developing relationships with existing clients and helping secure repeat work
• Contributing to low-carbon, energy-efficient and sustainable design solutions

What we’re looking for

You should have:

• At least three to four years’ post-qualification building services design experience
• A degree, HNC or HND in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related subject
• Experience designing mechanical building services systems
• The ability to produce calculations, specifications and technical drawings
• Experience working with Revit and relevant building services design software
• A sound understanding of UK Building Regulations and relevant British and European Standards
• Good communication skills and confidence dealing directly with clients
• The ability to manage your own workload and support less-experienced engineers

Chartered status, or progress towards chartership, would be welcomed but is not essential. Experience of healthcare projects, HTMs, BREEAM, renewable technologies or low-carbon design would also be useful.
