Job Description:

I’m delighted to be exclusively working with an established and growing engineering business specialising in industrial climate control, ventilation and odour control solutions who are looking for a Technical Sales Engineer with a mechanical engineering background to join its industrial sales team.

The business delivers bespoke HVAC, ventilation and odour control solutions across a range of industries, including water, wastewater and energy-from-waste. Its wider capabilities include electrical design, control panel manufacturing, maintenance services and plastic ductwork fabrication.

This is an exciting opportunity for a technically minded sales professional to work closely with customers, design engineers and delivery teams to develop solutions that are both technically robust and commercially competitive.

As a Technical Sales Engineer, you will manage technical and commercial enquiries, develop customer relationships and support projects from initial discussions through to order and handover. You will combine your mechanical engineering knowledge with commercial awareness to understand customer requirements, develop tailored solutions and prepare detailed proposals. Experience in HVAC, odour control, or water and wastewater ventilation would be particularly advantageous, as the business continues to expand in these markets.

Key responsibilities

• Manage technical and commercial enquiries across HVAC, ventilation and odour control.
• Review customer specifications, drawings, schedules and technical documentation.
• Understand customer processes, operating conditions and performance requirements.
• Attend customer meetings, site visits and technical discussions.
• Select and size equipment and system components, working with the design team where required.
• Collaborate with design and delivery teams to develop effective technical solutions.
• Prepare technically detailed and commercially competitive proposals.
• Communicate the technical benefits, limitations and commercial implications of proposed solutions.
• Respond to technical queries and support customers throughout the procurement process.
• Manage commercial discussions and negotiations through to order and project handover.
• Maintain accurate CRM records, including opportunities, quotations and customer contacts.
• Develop new opportunities within the water and wastewater sector, particularly in ventilation and odour control.
• Engage with customers early in the project lifecycle to help shape specifications and solutions.
• Monitor customer requirements, competitor activity and emerging market opportunities.
• Support the wider team in identifying priority accounts and growth opportunities.
• Represent the business at industry events and exhibitions.

Essential experience and skills

• Mechanical engineering background (degree, HNC/HND or equivalent practical experience).
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
• Experience in technical sales, business development or estimating within HVAC, ventilation or the water industry.
• Working knowledge of ventilation and air movement, including ductwork, fans and air change rates.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage with engineers and commercial decision-makers.
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to customer sites.
• Self-motivated, organised and capable of managing a varied workload.

Desirable experience

• Experience designing HVAC systems.
• Knowledge of odour control technologies, including chemical scrubbers, biofilters and activated carbon systems.
• Experience working with water utilities, wastewater treatment works or energy-from-waste facilities.
• Understanding of relevant water industry standards.
• Experience preparing tender responses for framework or utility contracts, including UVDB/Achilles.
• Existing contacts within the water, wastewater or industrial ventilation sectors.
